Alternative pop artist Rachel Elizabeth Hering, born and raised in Minneapolis, started studying music at a young age. Rae and her family realized at early onset she had the qualities of an artistic person. As her mom said, "I thought i had my whole world planned out, then God sent me Rae." Rae recalls being part of a music class that used the Yamaha method of learning. "Unfortunately" for Rae, she developed at a rate far ahead of the group, so she had to go to a private teacher. As a freshmen in high school Rae started learning from Mary Beth Millner. She was not only a piano teacher to her, but a life mentor. She was no-nonsense but gentle and encouraging at the same time. Speaking of Miss Millner, Rae says, "She was a very influential person in my musical formation." " Every year I was expected to participate in a Piano Exam and a Composition Contest." Rae started writing at a young age. She notes always having her guitar with her when she went to school. Fast forward to Nashville. Rae attended Belmont University where she graduated with a degree in commercial writing. Rae tells me the story of performing a song before a panel at Belmont. After presenting her original song she was told her music was too artistic. Fortunately this only deepened her roots to be just that...artistic. Having heroes such as Rufus Wainwright, it is very clear which path should a person like her choose? And just like Minneapolis native Prince, Rae has a large vault of songs yet to be released to the public, but we are excited to soon make those songs available. Look for songs like Tastebud and Blue Whale City. But for now You can check out what she has available on Rae's Web Page or check out posted work on Sound Cloud.
